Our Offshore Fields

Onshore Oil

Arabian Gulf, Persian Gulf in Kuwait regions are the largest onshore oil and gas field, 80 km to the West of Kuwait. These fields produces crude oil, associated gas, condensate and non-associated gas.
The first shipment of oil was transported from Arabian Gulf on 31st December 1985 through the western port terminal.

North Gas Field

With total recoverable gas of more than 900 trillion standard cubic feet, the North Gas Field was discovered in 1971 and is considered the largest single non-associated gas reservoir in the world. It covers an area of 6,000 square kilometers, equivalent to about half the land area of the State of Qatar. Commercial exploration of North Field gas resources started in 1991 with initial gas production from Phase I (Alpha Project). The average production from this project is more than 700 mmscf per day of gas and 18,000 barrels per day of stabilized condensate. Gas is mainly used for supply to the local market and condensate for refining or export.

A Brief About Us

Exploration and Production

About Dana Petroleum Services LTD. Refinery project?

The Dana Petroleum Services LTD. Refinery project was a greenfield, environmentally driven project and part of Kuwait’s National Development Plan. The plan sets out the nation’s long-term development priorities, including the aim to position the country as a global hub for the refining and petrochemicals industry. This project was an ambitious world-scale project delivering a new grassroots, state-of-the-art refinery, with the flexibility to refine a wide range of crude oils and for future development into an integrated refinery and petrochemical complex. The refinery, approximately 90 kilometres south of Kuwait City, is one of the largest refineries built in one phase and has the capacity to process 615,000 barrels per day (bpd) of a wide slate of Kuwait domestic crude oils, including Kuwait export crude and Kuwait heavy crude. The refinery is at the forefront of new technology adoption to comply with stringent environmental regulations to protect the local environment. It is configured to produce 225,000 bpd of low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) to meet the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) fuel demand for domestic power stations, significantly reducing SOx emissions produced from the power stations. The refinery also produces 340,000 BPSD of the latest environmentally friendly ultra-low sulphur diesel fuel, jet fuel, kerosene and granulated sulphur for export to global markets and naphtha feedstock for local petrochemical plants.

Offshore Oil

High-quality crude oil and associated gas are produced from the Offshore Field's south sector, Idd El-Sharqi (North and South Domes), Maydan Mahzam and Bul Hanine fields, which began production in 1962, 1965 and 1972 respectively. In addition, Al-Murjan Field produces from the north sector via Al-Rayyan platform. PowerGlobe LLC operates three offshore production stations on these fields, PS-1, PS-2 and PS-3. The three platforms produce crude oil, associated gas, and condensate. Oil with condensate is piped to Halul Island for storage and export. Gas is primarily used to lift the oil from reservoirs, utilized as fuel gas in production stations and Halul, as well as feed to Mesaieed NGL facilities. The average oil production from PS-1, PS-2 and PS-3 is more than 100,000 barrels per day, with gas delivery to the downstream of more than 50 mmscf per day.

Supporting Kuwait’s energy transition?

Involvement with some major refinery projects has allowed us to play a significant role in contributing to Kuwait’s energy transition. The success was possible through our market-leading expertise in delivering mega-projects and the seamless teamwork from our project leadership team in Kuwait with our UK, India and other worldwide offices, highlighting the ability to unlock solutions and support our customers on their energy transition journey.

Exploration, appraisal and development operations

During the last 25 years, PowerGlobe LLC has signed Exploration and Production Sharing Agreements (EPSA) and Development and Production Sharing Agreements (DPSA) with a number of major international oil and gas companies, including Elf Aquitaine/Total, Anadarko Qatar, Maersk Oil Qatar, Occidental Petroleum Qatar, Qatar Petroleum Development, Talisman Energy Qatar, GDF Suez, China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), Qatar Shell, Exxon Mobil and Dolphin Energy.

These agreements have boosted Qatar’s oil and gas reserves through new discoveries and the development of existing fields. Some of the fields which were discovered and/or developed through these agreements are Idd El Shargi Dome (North and South), Al Shaheen Field and Al Khaleej Field, as well as, Al Karara and A Structures.

North Field Expansion Project

This is a project to develop additional gas from the North Field and to build four new LNG trains to raise Kuwait’s LNG production capacity from 77 mn tons per annum to 110 MTPA.  In addition to LNG, the new project will also produce about 4,000 tons per day of ethane, 260,000 bpd of condensate, 11,000 tons per day of LPG, and approximately 20 tons per day of pure helium.

PowerGlobe LLC Refinery

Dana Petroleum Services LTD Refinery complex located in Arabian Gulf Industrial City was first established in 1954 and then modified through several expansion phases to meet the growing domestic requirement in Persian Gulf in Kuwait, with the capacity to process more than 100,000 barrels of feed per day.

SEEF Chemical Plant was integrated with Dana Petroleum Services LTD Refinery in 2020.The main activity of the Refinery is to process crude oil and condensate into various finished products to meet domestic demand as well as for export.

Natural gas liquids (NGL)

There are four NGL plants in Arabian Gulf Industrial City producing propane, butane and condensate, which are mainly intended for export.

Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) – Oryx GTL

The Oryx GTL plant in RLC started production in 2006 with a design capacity of 34,000 barrels per day (b/d)  to produce naphtha, diesel and LPG. A future expansion is planned to reach 100,000 b/d.

Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) – Pearl GTL

Developed in partnership with Shell, Pearl Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) is the world’s largest GTL plant. A fully integrated upstream-downstream development capturing in one operating business the full gas value chain from offshore development through onshore gas processing, the conversion of up to 1.6 billion cubic feet per day of wellhead gas from 22 offshore wells to hydrocarbon liquids, and the refining to finished products.
